Program Information

The Master of Engineering degree program offers an area of study in Engineering Management.

Industry seeks individuals who can "LEAD" successful business units, portfolios, programs, and projects including new product development and introduction. To be successful one must couple a foundation of solid analytical skills with a leadership/management style that stimulates collaboration. This interdisciplinary masters degree does just that:

  • We develop a solid analytical skill set based upon Industrial Engineering core capabilities.
  • We couple this with modern leadership and management techniques in areas such as engineering administration, systems engineering, project management, risk management, and strategic technology development.
  • We then expand this into elective sequences focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation, supply chain management, systems and software management, and quality management.

This interdisciplinary blend of engineering and business allows the masters student to remain technically astute while adding the management component. With this engineering focus, the Master of Engineering with an area of study in Engineering Management is quite different from an MBA.

The MEng is designed for working professionals and delivered entirely online to meet the unique needs of professional engineers. It is a practice-oriented degree.

Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission into the program must hold a bachelor of science in engineering, science or math and have taken a calculus sequence while pursuing their B.S, and have completed an undergraduate calculus-based probability and statistics course.

  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 undergraduate credit hours.
  • No GRE is required.
  • Applicants must submit a professional resume and personal statement as part of the online admissions application.
  • Official transcripts for the undergraduate degree (and graduate coursework, if applicable) should be sent to the Graduate College
  • All applicants must meet the English proficiency requirements, as defined by the Graduate College.

Degree Requirements

Students must complete a total of 30 credit hours equaling 10 courses to earn a Master of Engineering degree.

A culminating final report is required for a practice-oriented capstone experience that will be identified by the student's advisory committee. Additional requirements may exist for some academic units in terms of prerequisites.

Depending on the focus area and the course selection, the MEng with an area of study in EM graduate student could also apply and receive a Graduate Certificate Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
