Who should enroll

The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt - Health Care certification program is designed for professionals in a wide range of health care industries with various backgrounds including health care clinicians, health care administrators, quality and/or patient safety officers, health professions students, supply chain specialists in health care, patient experience officers and care transformation specialists.

Pre-requisites

While there are no official prerequisites, participants should have basic knowledge of statistics.

 Lisa Custer

Lisa Custer

Lisa has over 25 years of working experience in all aspects of process management and continuous improvement. Her work spans Six Sigma, Lean, Design, Total Productive Maintenance, and Total Quality Management. Prior titles include Principal with Accenture, Director with George Group Consulting, and Director of Quality in the semiconductor industry. She holds a Ph.D. and MSE in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University and a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
 
 
Matt Martin

Matthew Martin

Matt Martin, MS, PhD, LMFT, CSSBB is Clinical Associate Professor in the Doctor of Behavioral Health Program and Associate Director of SNAC at Arizona State University. Dr. Martin is Six Sigma Black Belt certified by ASQ and mentors graduate students in health care quality improvement projects. Research interests include integrated care measurement, medical workforce development, and population health strategies in primary care. Dr. Martin has worked with numerous health care organizations in Arizona to improve and evaluate their clinical processes. His projects have been funded by NIH, SAMHSA, HRSA, ASU, Arizona Department of Health, and private foundations. Prior to ASU, he served as Director of Behavioral Medicine at the Duke family medicine residency program in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Matt has 10 years of clinical experience including several years of practicing and managing integrated behavioral health services.

Clayton Taylor

Clayton is the Director of the Business and Finance Organizational Performance Office in the Office of the Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer at Arizona State University. His office consults with nine diverse Business and Finance operational areas to lower costs, improve operational efficiency and provide the highest quality customer experience to internal and external customers.
 
Britany J. M. McElroy

Britany J. M. McElroy

Britany J. M. McElroy is the Operations Administrator for the Office of Access Management at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and holds the academic rank of Instructor in the Mayo College of Medicine and Science. Her leadership role allows her to provide quality care and create a positive experience for all patients. Additionally, she serves as the Site Director for the Administrative Fellowship Program and the Site Liaison for the Mayo Clinic Response to Racism. Britany honed her healthcare administration skills as an Administrative Fellow with the Mayo Clinic, working on special projects across several campuses and departments, which prepared her for success throughout her career. She served as a fellow for two years before becoming an Operations Manager for the Department of Neurology in Arizona. Britany earned a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Florida. Her professional memberships include the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Health Services Executives. She also serves on the leadership committee for the Coalition of Blacks Against Breast Cancer and is Six Sigma Black Belt Certified. Britany co-developed and instructs the Six Sigma Green Belt course at Arizona State University in the College of Health Solutions. She enjoys educating high school students about personal finance, provides seminars on budgeting and debt management, serves as a mentor to aspiring healthcare professionals, and passionately seeks to make care accessible for all.

FAQ's

Lean methods focus on streamlining processes, removing wasteful practices, and increasing process efficiency. Lean creates systems that produce results very quickly and at a low cost per unit.

Six Sigma methods focus on reducing the variation in process results, and centering the process on a specific performance level. Six Sigma creates high quality, defect-free products and services.

Combined, Lean and Six Sigma represent a powerful and comprehensive set of organizational and process improvement tools.

Yellow Belt is an introduction to the foundational concepts of Lean Six Sigma and provides a series of tools used to make process improvements. The online course features videos, activities and discussion posts followed by a final exam. The hybrid course also includes a 3-hour, virtual, live training to practice using the tools. 

Green Belt is an extensive training in Lean and Six Sigma methodology. The online course consists of 10 weeks of instructions with videos, quizzes, online discussions and a final exam. The Green Belt also requires a 60-day applied project where participants will utilize the tools and methodology to implement changes in their organization.  

Black Belt furthers the training from the Green Belt program. Participants learn how to effectively lead teams in Six Sigma methodologies and work with stakeholders on projects. The Black Belt program trains on advanced statistical methods and analysis, and includes an applied project where participants will lead a team in utilizing the tools and methodology to implement changes in their organization.  

Master Black Belt is the final level of certification and is for participants looking to deploy Six Sigma at the top levels of an organization. Participants learn how to manage large scale organizational improvement units, practicing advanced statistical analysis, and leading six sigma strategy.

The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course is offered in three different tracks. Service/Transactional, Manufacturing and Health Care. The tracks cater to participants by industry focus areas to find commonality in discussions, case studies and specific application of lean and six sigma.

The Green Belt for health care professionals is offered quarterly.

The Green Belt program takes approximately 60 hours to complete. The program consists of 10 weeks of asynchronous coursework followed by 60 days to complete your applied project.

The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program requires an applied project to be completed during the program. This program is typically done in the context of the participant’s workplace or a volunteer position they hold. As a participant you are responsible for finding a project that you will be able to complete during the timeframe of the program. The instructor for the course can assist you in choosing your project but will not assign projects to participants. If you are concerned about finding an appropriate project, please reach out to us at exec-fseonline@asu.edu.

Registration is open for 1 week after a program starts. The first week consists of introductions and learning the platform so participants can easily catch up. 

 

If you change your mind about a course we can offer refunds up until the start of the program. You can also transfer to a later program before the start date.  Once the program starts we cannot offer refunds. If you would like to transfer to a later program after the program has already started there is a $500 transfer fee. We can also offer extensions for deadlines if necessary. Please reach out to your instructor and exec-fseonline@asu.edu if you need an extension. 

The Green Belt for health care professionals is $1950 per participant.

We offer discounts for ASU employees, alumni and students. We also offer discounts for military veterans and groups of 5 or more people. Please email us at exec-fseonline@asu.edu for more information on our discounts. 

We offer custom programs for organizations that are looking to get several members of their team certified. Our team can work with you to come up with a program that fits your needs. Please email us at exec-fseonline@asu.edu for more information.  We are able to offer group discounts and tailor our programs for large groups. 

 

You will receive an email inviting you to join the course on Canvas a few days before your program starts. The welcome email will contain any additional information you need. If you don’t hear anything by the start date of your program, please email us at exec-fseonline@asu.edu. 

The online programs are all asynchronous and do not have scheduled meetings. If you would like to meet with the instructor for your course they can schedule an appointment with you. 

Make sure you have completed all the requirements of the course you are taking. Once the course end date has passed, ASU will verify completion of all requirements. Once your certification is verified you will receive an email with a digital copy of your certification and instructions on accessing a digital badge. Physical certificates will also be sent when applicable. 

 

Please be aware that for courses with applied projects the verification process may take longer as instructors will need to review the final project reports. Please email us at exec-fseonline@asu.edu if you have any questions.
