Overview
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering created a series of microcertificates in Computer Science to develop a highly technical workforce in the most in-demand areas of computing. We are offering these microcertificates to address the global demand for industry-related professionals.
Earning a Certification
To meet the requirements for a certification, you must:
- Complete nine graduate credit hours from the courses approved for each certification
- Earn a grade "B" or higher

Obtain Credits Towards Your Degree

The Master in Computer Science program allows graduate microcertificate coursework to count as part of the requirements towards your chosen degree program—provided the course grades are a “B” or higher and are completed within the last seven (7) years at the time of admission.
All coursework taken before the start of a degree program is subject to approval by the Program Chair and Graduate College. An admission application is required to be considered for a master’s program and must meet all other admission criteria in order to be eligible.
Requesting Your Certification
Starting in August (Fall) 2026, the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence transitioned the professional certifications in CS to a portfolio of graduate microcertificates. Arizona State University (ASU) microcertificates are short, focused, credit-earning academic programs designed to build specific, industry-relevant skills in 9 credit hours.
Students who started the professional certificates during the Summer 2026 term or before are eligible to request their professional certificate. Upon completion of the final certificate course with the required grade, participants may request their professional certification in Computer Science by completing the request form.
