UMSU becomes part of the New Affiliate University Workshop (Strengthening US – Indonesia Partnership for World-Class Education)

Jakarta, 12 July 2023 – Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara took part in the New Affiliate University Workshop which was held on 12-13 July 2023 at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel Jakarta. In this activity, UMSU was represented by the Director of the Office of International Affairs and Cooperation Rafieqah Nalar Rizky, M.A, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science Dr. Al-Khowarizmi, S.Kom., M.Kom, and Head of Faculty of Engineering Study Program Chandra Amirsyah Putra Siregar, S.T., MT.

This event was held in order to strengthen institutional cooperation between Indonesia and the United States, organized by USAID as Funding in collaboration with Arizona State University, HEPI (Higher Education Partnership Initiative) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This event also invited industry and international companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, PT Freeport, Orackle, Rockwell Automation, Boeing, and was attended by 31 selected universities from all over Indonesia.

This activity was opened by the Director of Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) Mrs. Dr. Ir. Sri Gunani Pratiwi representing the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. In her remarks she said that “The purpose of this event is to strengthen institutional partnerships between Indonesia and the United States, especially in the fields of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology. She also said that university representatives who were selected to participate in this event should carry out the programs initiated and assist the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in improving the quality of all tertiary institutions in Indonesia.

This event was held for 2 days with different themes. On the first day, the workshop focused on the University Partnership and the introduction of HEPI. In the University Partnership Panel session there were several presenters, namely Prof, Ir. Andi Isra Mahyuddin, Ph.D, (Intstitut Teknologi Bandung) , Diah Wihardini, B.Sc. (Hons)., M.Ed., Ph.D (Binus University), and Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Adi Maulana, ST. P.Phil (Uiniversitas Hasanuddin) as an example of best practice in cooperation with the United States. For an introduction to HEPI, explained by Dr. Kathy as Director of Global Operations Arizona State University. In her presentation, she conveyed several programs from HEPI for 2023-2027. HEPI itself is an institution under the Arizona State University which is funded by USAID. Furthermore, about LPDP was delivered directly by Dr. Dwi Larso as Director of the LPDP Scholarship and LPDP Best Practice by Priza Marendra Putra, Ph.D.

On the second day, the event focused on industry partnerships with representatives from several international companies; Rockwell Automation Indonesia, Boeing Indonesia, Cisco Indonesia, Microsoft Corporation and Orackle Academy Indonesia.
