Lean and Six Sigma have been used for decades and their impact can be far-reaching with significant financial gains as evidenced by companies such as Toyota, General Electric, and Xerox. Although the origins and initial utilization of these methodologies and tools are in manufacturing and date back to the post-WWII industrial boom, they have gained a strong foothold across all industry sectors in recent years as well as increased usage across all functional areas within those organizations adopting a continuous improvement culture.
The ASU Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate program is offered in a hybrid format and online:
The hybrid program has two components: online and in-person. Participants are given access to the online certification course two weeks before the in-person component of the program. The online component of the course introduces participants to Lean Six Sigma methods and tools to achieve improvements within their organization. The face-to-face portion of the program consists of five hours of interactive application of the quality tools and concepts of Lean and Six Sigma learned through the online course modules.The hybrid course is structured in a way so that it ads to and complements what participants learn online to the real-life application activities and examples covered in the in-person session. Instructors will facilitate collaborative sessions that empower individuals with six tools that can be immediately deployed in their individual work areas.
The online program is an asynchronous course, consisting of lecture videos, discussion boards, discussion activities and module checks covering the quality tools and concepts of Lean and Six Sigma. Course facilitators will work with participants throughout the program to ensure each participant obtains a solid understanding of the material that can be applied to their unique organizational challenges.

With the completion of this course, participants receive a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and qualify for 1.0 continuing education units from Arizona State University.
